📖 Overview

Ahhh, not to sound too perverted, but coming from an 18 year old male, that may seem a bit too challenging given the subject of such a review. Sailor Moon and her cronies, a pack of four other teen-ager girls who fight evil in mini-skirts and spandex tube-tops. The premise of the story lines are all based around the love story, how it all usually boils down to some character falling in love with another one, whether it be significant to the series or just a filler.

🎬 Storyline & Narrative

Sailor Moon is the epic tale of good vs. evil. A pretty teenage girl named Serena, who is a junior high student who discovers she has mystical powers and is destined to protect the universe from evil. Not only must she cope with having super-powerful (but none too bright) villians always after her head, but she also has to juggle with the hardships of teenage life.

Once Serena is aware that she has powers, now she must learn how to harness them and use them for the sake of good. To do this and to help her fight, she is told by her cat, Luna, (who can talk) that she must find four other girls who make up the Senshi team. Those girls, Kino Makoto (Lita, Sailor Jupiter), Aino Minako (Mina, Sailor Venus), Ami Mizuno (Amy, Sailor Mercury), and Rhei Hino (Rei, Sailor Mars). With these powerful allies and close friends, she now wages war against the dark empire, The Negaverse, whos queen, Queen Beryl, lusts for her Silver Crystal. The silver crystal contains the energy to revive Queen Metallia, or the Negaforce which can destroy all that is good. To prevent this, she must fight it out until the end until she is once again Queen of the Moon Kingdom (NeoQueen Serenity).

With their declaration of war, the Senshi (Sailors) now must deal with the hardships of romance, bad grades, and make-overs all while maintaing a good GPA at Crossroads Junior High. But with the help of her friends, Serena can manage this feat with confidence.

This tale spans through several years and new more deadlier foes, with nastier tricks than the ones before. This is the tale of the one named Sailor Moon.

Usagi = Serena (Sailor Moon)
Ami Mizuno = Ami (Sailor Mercury)
Rhei Hino = Rei (Sailor Mars)
Kino Makoto = Lita (Sailor Jupiter)
Aino Minako = Mina (Sailor Venus)
The two outer sailors who aren't very popular and that no one cares about: Sailors Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto.
Artemis = The white cat
Luna = The black cat
Diana = The little grey kitty.

All these characters are slowly introduced into the series and are individual revealed of their special powers and their destinies, which makes for stupendous character development.

🎨 Animation & Visual Direction

The animation in this series is I guess, seeing more recent anime's, the factory standard. The simple upside down pear shaped heads, and eyes way bigger than their mouths. Unbelievably perfect angelic bodies, and cool cut scenes, along with corny special FX.

🎵 Voice Acting & Soundtrack

The voice acting is common in the English dub, but theres lots of emotion in the acting, so it's funny at funny times and sad at sad times.

Yet the Japanese voices (Subed in English) are nothing short of emotionless and extremely irritating. The girls voices are very high pitched, squealy and they just pierce your eardrums. They give me a stabbing pain right between my eyes.

• Community Praise: The review was pretty good, I thought the story line was a little long and um.. just think its kinda strange you pointed out twice in the review that your an 18 year old male and watched the anime for um.. hormonal reasons. A little bit too much info in my opinion for a review :(

• Contentious Points: English Dub is good? Eh? Japanese version bad? Wha-? Certainly not the movies. The Japanese voices sounded more like real people, whereas the US contribution consisted essentially of unrealistically inflected and ridiculously intoned voices, at least consistent with the notion that the show would only be watched by 8 year-olds - hence cutting perfectly innocuous scenes. Oh, and apparently missing several episodes entirely because they were independant from the central plot of the season! Rarrgh! I agree with all the rest about how great the show is though. :) Fortunately, I started out watching the Italian Dub, which sounds quite nice. :P • Pardon me? But did he say he hates the Outer Senshi? It is maybe because "They aren't american when this was reveiwed?" They are much more realistic than the Inners, and they don't sound "squeaky" or "high pitched" (and already when he said "That nobody cares about", that is already a false statement. Most people like the Outer Soldiers much more than the inner soldiers.
