Rurouni Kenshin Ovas (Tsuioku Hen)
Overview
This is a tale of a figure a couple of you might know well, and his life story begins in these ovas. It shows us how he started out to be become an assasin for a cause he believed in and how later on, he found out that somehow, life was more then just that 'cause' he once had in mind.
Storyline & Narrative
We are taken to 1859 Japan,to where the story begins, in a time when bloodshed and war is tearing apart a country and many innocent lives are lost. A young boy whose life is rescued from death, at the hands of a group of bandits, by a renowned swordsman. The swordsman turns into a master, as though destiny pertained it, and teaches the boy the art of the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu, at which later on, he becomes unbeatable with the sword. The boy then decides to use his 'skill' to change the ways of war and opression from the tyrannical ways of the Shogunate, in which many lives suffer, and hopes that he could somehow bring forth an end to it all. To start a reign of peace and equality, to start a 'New Era'. And as this story unfolds many things happen...
Characters & Dynamics
An assembly of characters all of whom weave an intricate web to make whole the distanct tapestry of this movie. But of course as of all films, there are the main hero and heroine, Kenshin and Tomoe. Kenshin Himura - the protagonist and if there were to be an antagonist, I think it would be the rest of the cast with exception of the few that help him along the way, namely Hiko Seijuro - the 13th inheritor of the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu, who renamed and taught Kenshin his renowned swordmanship. Katsura Kogoro - Leader of the Kiheitai, a group of anti-Shogunate warriors and also the man, who when awed by the skill of this young boy, recruits and later designates Kenshin as an assasin (Hitokiri) for the Ishinshishi. Tomoe Yukishiro - the young woman who helped create a 'change', and would later make the meaning of life clearer by helping the Battousai attain the inner peace he lacked. Among many others who all play a part in this meaningful story.
Animation & Visual Direction
The animation is stunning, at times, there are instances when the scenery and background looks very realistic. But there is a lot of violence, so for those people who can't stomach such stuff i don't think it would be all that great.
Voice Acting & Soundtrack
The tape i watched was dubbed and the voice acting were very much suiting to the characters, although i would like to see the subtitled when given the chance.
