Modern Consensus: The 2001 reviewer's high praise for Battle Angel's visual craftsmanship and narrative impact aligns perfectly with modern classic status.

📖 Overview

A beautifuly told story about how we all want the unatainable in life and how some take it to the max, and how that yearning for what is out of reach effects people around you.

🎬 Storyline & Narrative

Its the story of a cyborg girl named gally whose creator, Ido, comes from a floating "palace" named Zalem. Gally finds herself wanting to become a Hunter/Warrior (bounty hunter), while also meeting a young man who is hell bent on going to Zalem(Zalem being some type of palace that everyone wants into but few ever make it). Ido on the other hand meets up with an old freind that quickly turns into a rival making for some extremely good anime.

👥 Characters & Dynamics

Gally, as I said is a cyborg girl who goes from looking to find who she is inside (besides freaking wires and metal), to trying to hang on to what she loves. Ido is a scientific master mind who is kind-hearted and willing to help all. He hides a small secret in the movie which doesnt take to long to discover.

🎨 Animation & Visual Direction

The art in this movie was just done beautifully. Every character stands out and the fight scenes were nothing short of amazing to watch.

🎵 Voice Acting & Soundtrack

I have yet to see the dub version but as far as the sub goes the voice acting was awsome. There was not one voice in there that made me want to jump off a roof. Impressive..

• Community Praise: This is on of the best anime I ever seen...It totally dominates over Ghost in the shell and all other good animes...I have hoped that they did all of the episodes of this one • I dunno. There should be a multiple review system which takes composite scores for the main display. This way all those willing to review, can help out to create a more balanced review. Personally, I'd give this anime a B+, I've read the entire manga series of GN's released in the US, and there is just so much more that could go into this one. It's beautiful, but the slicing, and the "cop out" ending avoids the original issue that the anime seemed to address. Other than that, no outstanding problems:) So maybe someone who reads this one day can take my suggestion to heart :) Thanks again - Misu
• Contentious Points: This movie was based of the manga Gunnm, known in the US as Battle Angel Alita. And if you have ever read the manga, this movie is very dissappointing, they try and shove two graphic novels into one movie, eliminate half the storyline, and take out most of the emotion involved. When i saw this movie i was very dissapointed, i thought it lacked in a strong plot, since it had two different plots and tried to combine them into one. my suggestion is to go read the manga. • maybe you've judged it wrong. shouldn't have put 100% score
