Lensman (Galactic Patrol Lensman)

Spacey, odd, a little basic, ad suspecting the author of using psychodelic "trip" inducing drugs and/or being slightly nuts

Adapted from the best-selling science fiction novels
of E.E. "Doc" Smith, this superbly animated film
combines detailed hand-drawn animation with state-of-the-art
computer graphics. The Galactic Patrol, an intergalactic
police force in the 25th Century is pitted against the
evil Boskone Horde. A dying Lensman entrusts young
Kimball Kinnison with a mysterious Lens containing
vital information needed to destroy the Boskone.
Outgunned and overmatched, the only hope for survival
lies in the hands of The Lensmen - an elite corps of
heroes who are able to tap into the cosmic power of
the universe (note: taken from video box, since I couldn't
come up with anything that didn't have massive spoilers)

The Good:
Kimball (Kim) Kinnison is decided upon for a lead character, and he seems to want to drag along the family friend Buskirk once things get a bit hairy.
being the only person remaining of her team sent out to investigate the ship Kim found himself on, Chris (Clarissa MacDougall) goes along for the ride to find out anything she can to help aide the mystery, while fellow Lensman Worsel is tossed in to keep them all out of the frying pan
Kim's dad is around to start things off, and Galactic Patrol's Admiral Haynes looks like he tries his best to muck things up with red tape.

The Bad:
Lord Helmuth of the Boskone Empire has the galaxy in his sights, and he won't take any impediment to his objective lightly. He's been known to execute commanders for incompetence very quickly.
Among these Sub-Commaders is Greedil, First commander. Dlexly, Second commander, and Zwilk, 3rd commander for the Boscone Empire. Jiji, their general flunkey hangs out in the shadows and does his best to avoid notice

animation is so-so, it was probably above par in the 80's, but now it's just mediocre

can't hate it, can't love it.
