Keiichi. He's one of my favorite anime characters and he's just so cute. Anyone who doesn't like him doesn't have a heart! I like the modern day setting and the fact that, despite the presences of Goddesses (Who with the exception of Belldandy, act like anyone else), this is just a simple story about human goodness. There's no fighting, no real enemies, but the story and character development had enough power to keep me watching to the very end.

My biggest gripe, and this might be true for many people, is that this series spans five tapes but there's not much video on each one so you don't feel like you're getting a lot for your money (even though the story is good). There are also a few overly cute moments with Belldandy but these are infrequent enough to be bearable.

📖 Overview

Keiichi Morisato, human. Belldandy, Goddess. Bound together by a divine contract can this relationship work? This 5 episode OVA explores that very possibility, giving you plenty of romance, some comedy and tugging your heartstrings. If you want to explore what is good about human beings in a modern day setting, this is your series.

🎬 Storyline & Narrative

I like to think everyone has a soft spot in their heart for the little guy, and what better character to bring that out than Keiichi Morisato. Though short in stature, he will give you everything he's got and then some. Now if only he could find a girlfriend... Well someone up there was taking notes, because the Goddess Belldandy appears to offer him one wish as a reward for being such a nice guy. Thinking he's being set up for some kind of nasty trick, he jokingly wishes for Belldandy to become his girlfriend and boom, the perfect couple is born. Well okay, things aren't quite perfect. Keiichi is comically shy about his relationship with Belldandy and Bell has a couple of sisters, Urd and Skuld, who still have to put their stamp of approval on this relationship. Still, for the most part its almost too good to be true. In fact, can it last? There's more beneath the surface that I can promise you the characters will be forced to deal with by the time all is said and done. So cross your fingers and lend Bell and Kei some of your good fortune by watching this series

👥 Characters & Dynamics

I've already described Keiichi for you, but its worth pointing out again that he is the strength of the series. As he says, "Living with three Goddesses is something only a complete fool would complain about." That pretty much sums him up. Tolerant and thoughtful.

Belldandy, his girlfriend and Goddess is simply too good to be true. The OVAs devote a lot to kawaii shots of her which is okay because you're seeing her through Keiichi's eyes, and if anyone deserves a fairytale girlfriend it's him.

Urd is Belldandy's older sister. Though mischievious, she's only trying to help sister, even though this more often than not spells trouble for poor Keiichi. Skuld is Belldandy's little sister. She's the debugger of the Goddess computer (Which I assume runs the show for us mortals). This means she runs around with a mallet smashing, well bugs. Its cute. She's also very technically savy and that comes in handy more than once. Unfortunately she's insanely jealous of Keiichi and how he has taken Belldandy away from her. Another soul for our hero to win over.

There are other character and they are well done, though none play major roles in the OVA.

🎨 Animation & Visual Direction

The animation is superb. These are some of the most beautiful character designs I've seen in any series. Granted its an OVA so there's a bit more for them to work with than a TV series and they do not disappoint. One thing I've noticed on the net is that OMG art tends to be everywhere and has inspired a lot of websites and fanart. I think this is a testament to how well it is drawn.

🎵 Voice Acting & Soundtrack

This is the only anime other than SailorMoon that I've seen dubbed but not subbed. Having said that, this is one of the few occasions where I don't think the English dub is an atrocity. The guy who plays Keiichi is actually pretty good. Skuld and Urd are decent. Belldandy is a little weak at times, but nothing totally awful. The other bit characters manage to do a surprisingly decent job too. Fortunately though, the intro and ending songs are retained and japanese and they are good. All in all, a nice effort by AnimEigo

• Community Praise: excellent review. but mostly the viewers are more attracted to Belldandy more than anyone else. i dont know, it depends in individual tastes. take a look and decide. its worth every cents you pay and every single minute you see the anime. • Ah!
